The following links are for the document we are talking about:
Draft Shoreline Management Plan
as well as the accompanying
Draft Hazard Maps found in Appendix C
First, determine if your property is in Lakeshore Area 1 or Lakeshore Area 2 by identifying your location on one of the 31 Hazard Maps. (A red line denotes the Top of Bluff, purple denotes the eastern limit of Lakeshore Area 1 and yellow determines the 100 year erosion line and the eastern limit of Lakeshore Area 2). The Consultant Recommended Shoreline Development Guidelines found on Pages 113 -117 propose serious restrictions to all Lakeshore property owners within the ABCA watershed – from Tower Line Road in the north of Bayfield south to Kettle Point. BSRA has posted a resource document, BSRA Concerns about the Draft ABCA Document: Shoreline Management Plan 2016-Consultant Recommendation Report

Hello – I read the article in the Lakeshore Advance and was dissappointed that the article didn’t summarize the dramatic changes that are proposed.

In their proposal, the ABCA advocates for no new development OR minor alterations/changes to existing buildings and structures along the Lakeshore (!).

They propose a ‘managed retreat’ approach whereby minor alterations will be phased out over time (which boils down to allowing buildings to deteriorate and ultimately be removed from the shoreline). In addition, they do not advocate for any hard shoreline protection (eg. seawalls).

The proposal will dramatically affect all properties along the shoreline and in turn, will impact tax revenue that the municipalities receives from waterfront property owners.

Re BSRA concerns about ABCA’s SMP(Shoreline Management Plan or in my estimation the Simple Minded Plan).BSRA raises a number of valid points but beyond all of these is a more important question of ABCA’s moral, ethical and legal authority in many of these matters! We do not live in a third world country where you can steal my land!ABCA wants to create a lakeside park extending for 30 miles along Lake Huron shores and they want it for free!By preventing me from maintaining my shoreline property they expect me to meekly depart leaving behind an eroding bank, increasingly unstable deteriorating buildings and a toxic leaky septic system!Would anyone come to this shoreline nightmare they are bent on creating?
Luckily we don’t live in a banana republic and if ABCA wants my land there is a process whereby they can expropriate it but only by offering me fair compensation! Then and only then can they assume ownership and responsibility for their “fairytale” park!!
